This past year was probably the most motivated that I have been since before children. I WENT to the gym pretty regularly (3 gym days and usually a run or 2 on other days) ... never letting more than 1 week (or 2) slip on by. I would certainly feel those missed days, but I would regain pretty quickly.

May came and things got busy.
Excuses started.
Exercise DID NOT HAPPEN.
Besides the physical effects of not exercising, I started to notice the emotional/mental effects. I NEED to exercise. I NEED the stress relief. I NEED the little time alone.
So, this past holiday weekend, I have made some new goals for myself. Putting exercise on my calendar will make it happen more than just saying I will try to. Already I am feeling so much better, but I tell you, I CAN FEEL THAT I AM OUT OF SHAPE. My muscles are just throbbing and the other day after a stupid run in the heat of the day, I seriously thought I would throw up.
I KNOW IT WILL GET BETTER. I just need to be consistent and push myself a little.
Helping me out is this nifty little tool to help track my mileage ... NIKE + You can check out how it works here . I didn't go for the fancy sneakers (yet) because my current ones are just fine. My husband figured out a way to wedge it in my laces. And, of course I already have an iPod Nano. It took a little bit for me to figure out the calibration, but I think I am good now. I do have to erase the history of my first 2 runs because there was a lot of walking involved and now my average speed is pretty darn slow. Not that I am fast, but I know I run faster than my recorded average. I am excited about this new little device. Hopefully it will REALLY MOTIVATE me.
As a family we have been glued to the Olympic swimming trials. Of course we have swimmers in our bunch, so the interest is there. Swimming doesn't always get the recognition that we would like to see, but come summer Olympic time, the sport seems suddenly "cool". WE LOVE THAT! My 10 year old is super motivated right now, which is good since we have another big meet coming up and STATES at the end of the month. She would love to be a SUPERSTAR ;) Of course I think she is already.
Speaking of "superstars", I think it is totally cool that this 41 year old mother is bound for the OLYMPICS ... AGAIN!

This lady has worked her butt off! I can't wait to watch.

We've been tied to the TV too, between Wimbledon and the Olympic trials. Dara Torres is AWESOME!
Our club posted the air times of the swimming trials so I printed it and taped it to the television. Did you see the Phelps/Lhotke world record breaking race in the 400IM? COOL! I got goosebumps!
Of course this family can only watch the trials that air on NBC because of our lack of cable television. Oh well, I think my children will survive even if they think they won't. ;)

When the kids were in school I would go to the gym everyday. Every single day. I stay the name weight???? I even had my thyroid tested. I eat too much is what I figure. I don't gain....I just cannot lose the last 15 pounds that would show off my lean muscles.
I love lifting weights!
Keep at it.
Dara looks like she could crush me!
