STATE MEET Day 3

Yet another early day ...

6:45 am at the pool
7-8 am warm-ups
8:30 am start of the meet

I'll give the shorter version for this day;)

On tap for swimming ...
  • 50M Backstroke {k}
  • 100 M Free {k}
  • 50M Free {e}
  • 50M Breaststroke {k}
  • FREE RELAYS

Results after prelims ...
50M Back (5th at 41.96  A time, but so close to AA)
100M Free (8th at 1:19.75 ... this is a popular event)
50M Free (40.21 for {e} - a few tenths taken off, but no placement in finals)
50M Breaststroke ( 48.17 which was 4th seating ... she was .13 off her best time)

RELAYS ...
{k} made top FREE RELAY (she went 2nd) and her team placed 1st (great splits)
{e} did her best time EVER in her split of the 50 Free.  Too bad it couldn't have been an individual ... oh well!

After the relays we all went home for some R&R.  Today the break was shorter, so {k} quickly headed to my bedroom for an hour nap ... she slept solid.  When she woke up she ate a good lunch, and we went back to the pool.  This time {e} stood home with the two little girls which was a HUGE help.

3-4 pm warm-ups
4 pm start of the finals

FINALS results ...
  • 50M Back (7th overall ... {k}'s time fell short at 43.29  ... she was crushed)
  • 100M Free (7th overall ... she moved up a place, but her time was short a bit ... 1:21.08)
It was at this time, that I wasn't sure we could pull {k} out of her down mood.  Thankfully there was some technical issues going on with the pool, so I managed to get {k} to hang with her friends  ... they cheered her up some.
  • 50M Breast (3rd place finish!!!!!  Not her best time at 49.82, but everyone else followed suit) ... my little girl got to stand on the podium on her own account!
{k}'s 1st individual STATE LCM medal!!!!!
GREAT WAY TO FINISH OUR LONG WEEKEND!!!!!

Highlights for {k}...
  • She qualified for finals in every event she swam (which was the maximum- 7 individuals)
  • She came home with 3 medals
  • She also swam both top relays and placed 1st (one with a STATE RECORD)
  • She ranks as the #4 swimmer overall(according to points earned) in the STATE (to which I live) for 10/U girls

*It is also nice to know that when {k} ages up (late Oct.), she also has STATE times.  In fact she is eligible for STATES in her 50M Free clear through her 18th birthday.  HOW ABOUT THAT!!!!!!

This was re-told (by the gushing Mom) to whomever had the time and patience to read this.

E~

Wow! Awesome blow-by-blow of the meet. We don't have any swimmers -at least yet, but it sounds exhausting - for everyone! You're such a good, supportive Mom! Your family is truly blessed.

At least it doesn't sound like you had to go too far to get to the pool.

I hope you all get some well-deserved R&R! :)

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

"The Loveliness of The Seashore"

What is the "Seashore" like? "Where the sky meets the sea ... The seashore is a place where the sea and the sky are the same smoky gray until ... the morning sun breaks through. The hot noonday sun feels warm as a big soft cat covering you. And it seems there is nothing in the world except the sound of the wind and the rising and falling of waves." Over at Dawn 's there are so many wonderful books suggested on her blog. Earlier this month I couldn't help but to peek at some of them ... thanks Dawn! *The above quote came from The Seashore Book . The ocean moves in and then moves out. This place where water, sky and earth meet is never the same. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, each wave that returns pushes against the incoming swell as it is pulled back into the endless depths and swallowed into the vastness of an unknown deep. Such is each day of our "daily" lives. I grew up enjoying the sights, sound, and the surf of the NY/Jersey "shor...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
