There is always a list ...

WARNING : I am thinking and this could be a very boring post.

One of the things that I seem to worry about (and that list can go on and on), is selling our home at some point.  When we moved to this state, we thought it would only be a 2-3 year stay.  We just celebrated our 3rd year living here and I would imagine that we will be here for the full year. I am sure though, that if things continue to go well with my husband's job ... we will be off in a new direction and be heading to a state far away.

This leads me back to our house and the many things that we should do to make it look a little better once the time comes to sell it.  Of course, it is still not a good time to sell ... hopefully things will change when we really have to.  We were really very lucky last time.

My mental to do list ...
  1. paint the trim in the house
  2. fix the garage door
  3. paint the playroom (the only room NEVER painted by us)
  4. paint the garage ...  the walls look GROSS to me
  5. get windows replaced ... yes, that still hasn't been taken care of
  6. yard cleanup (this is always an ongoing task)
AND then there is ...

THE FRONT DOORS of my house.
They are screaming ... help me!  The wood is faded and rough in spots, the hardware is chipping, and they just look sad.  I hate these doors.  I hate that they are all glass.  When we moved here I quickly bought some bamboo roll shades for the inside to help provide some privacy.  When we first bought this home, we "thought" ;) that maybe we would replace them, but that is a HUGE expense and we opted out of it since we knew this would not be a home for the long run.

So again this leads me to ask anyone who reads.  What should I do about this door?  Should I paint it and replace the hardware (we have done that in previous homes)?  The door is currently a dark stain wood, but would it look okay if I did a dark charcoal or black (our home is brick)?  Maybe I should just sand down the rough edges and restain.  Hmmmm  ... ideas?  Maybe I should not even bother with the front door, but something tells me that could be the first impression someone gets when they see my house.

Beautiful house!! I agree that front doors are VERY important, they are the first impression makers. I would go the route of repairing what you already have for now.

By the way...the picture of your reflection in the door makes me WAY jealous of your skinny you-know-what :-)

Black would be good...but what about a mossy green...I see you have a verdigris "tin" type roof over the front window. I wouldn't bother replacing the door handles etc...too much work.

Okay, I agree with Colleen - if I didn't luv ya, I'd say I hated you! :)

And yes, your house is gorgeous. I think, yes, update fixtures, and may be remove the bamboo shades. And as far as painting the door, well, I think it's a great idea to always freshen up the front - because I completely believe it's true what they say about first impressions - BUT don't ask me about color choices - cause if you remember correctly from my post of a few weeks ago - my color choices went terribly, terribly wrong! :)

The first impression I get of your house is WOW! Our house is a third of the size. It is quite a good size for England too!
The first thing people see coming into our house is shoes. I must work on that! I would love to hear how you deal with the shoe issue actually.
We always go for the repair but if you go to the DIY store and look round, your doors will go in a shot! There are so many beautiful designs out there......

I just have to laugh. You should see my front door. I never nag my husband. But come'on when can we get a new one. I agree it is first impression, however, it really is funny what the buyer liked about the house.

If it needs painting...then touch it up. just my thought.

I definately think it is a good idea to freshen up the front door area. A good sanding and fresh coat of stain would be fine. I think paint would look nice too although I have no advice on which color to choose. I do like black hardware on front doors.

Sand and paint them you can not change the first impression and if they buyers go into your house turend off they will not be able to really "look" at the rest of you really nice home. I would go nutral Black would be the best, it is save you know.
p.s we are trying to sell our house right now in the bad market I hope it changes for you

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
