Rest in PEACE St. Augustine of Little Rock ...


It is with a heavy heart that I share my sad news ...


Our beloved Great Dane/Aussie named "Auggie" passed away on Saturday, September 18th.

A little background ...
  • Born 2/8/09
  • Adopted 4/1/09
  • Started to limp 7/6/10
  • Back and forth to vet in July
  • Diagnosed with bone cancer (left shoulder) in 8/10
  • Started daily pain meds in August- September
  • Fell on shoulder on 9/17/10
  • Peacefully went to sleep on 9/18/10

There is so much I could say about this dog, but it is still so hard for me to think about and write. Someday I hope to articulate my thoughts a little better.

Some thoughts on Auggie ...
  • Beautiful to look at (absolutely striking and unique)
  • Soulful eyes that were amazingly blue
  • photogenic
  • difficult to train
  • needed to be near people
  • completely DEAF (I think this is why he looked at people the way he did)
  • loved to chew big bones ... especially filled with peanut butter
  • shedded a TON (ugh)
  • loved to lay under tables (my chairs were never neatly arranged due to his big body moving them)
  • he never growled
  • he loved hugs from little girls and never minded them laying on him
  • had a love for wood blinds (guess we can replace them now)
  • would hide from new people taller than 5 feet ( we called him our "under the table dog")
  • rarely barked (apparently the early training with a bark collar helped)
  • he was LITERALLY afraid of shadows (another thing we relate to his deafness and exaggerated sense of SIGHT)
  • didn't like to go outdoors alone
  • loved a car ride ... even to the vet
  • didn't play with tennis balls, but he enjoyed eating them
  • gentle giant
  • He consumed napkins. Not sure why?????
  • LOVED ice cubes and had great catching skills when they were tossed at him
  • enjoyed chewing on the Border Collie's neck for play (Comet, our other doggie)
  • sweet

Oh Auggie, we will miss you ...

I'm so sorry to hear about Auggie. I'm sure you all have been through a lot these past few days. They sure become a part of our family quickly don't they? Especially when they're so kind to our babies. Hang in there.

So sorry for the loss of your beautiful Auggie.

He lived a short but wonderful life, thanks to you all. It's obvious you loved him so much...and I am SURE he knew it, too.

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
