All is good ...

I have picked myself up and decided not to be cranky about the anonymous commenter that hurt my feelings (boo hoo). I seriously need to NOT BE SO SENSITIVE to statements made by others. I am a good kind-hearted person (for real) and I am pretty sure the man upstairs knows that. Except for GOD ... no one is perfect.

Other good stuff going on ...
  • Oldest daughter {e} has qualified for the Duke University Talent Search . Basically that means that she is one smart cookie who will be allowed to take either the SAT or the ACT in the 7th grade. {e}'s little sister said that she can't take the test because .... she is too short (LOL!). I guess there are not that many 73 pounders taking the test.
  • {k} is doing well with homeschooling. I feel like I am closer to understanding her style of learning and what her key learning problems are. She started Catholic school in the 3rd grade (K-2 were in a public school) and honestly I don't think she has gone much past that in her reading skills. Their program just didn't cater to her which is so disappointing. I now have a 5th grader (a young one at that) who does 6th grade math and probably should be doing 3rd/4th grade reading. The program that I am currently doing (ABEKA) is going too fast for her. I think I need to switch things up a bit.
  • {m} is making some strides with learning as well. In some ways she is similar to her sister {k}, but she is better at retaininig info that she reads. I really think it was a smart move for me to take her away from the "School" she was at. One-on-one is really important when you are learning how to read. The old school just did not provide this sort of help.
  • {b} is loving her kindergarten class at the Catholic school. The teacher is nice, but I know that I need to start stepping up her learning a little at home. She was reading a little before school, and now she is back to doing cutsie artwork and "a,b,c's". That is all well and good, but I am afraid that {b} will be bored or worse yet ... lose her enthusiasm for wanting/learning more. She is my little sponge ... got to get her while she is still thirsty ;)
  • {c} is a mixture of sass, cuteness, smart-ness (way too smart for her teeny little body with the big hair), lovey dovey, and temper. Lots of emotions rolled into one. Can you just imagine what I will be dealing with when she is a teen? I may be wrong, but someone once told me that a 5th child is just like that. UH OH!

I am even happier to report that I have run 10 miles so far this week and lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks. I wasn't even looking to lose weight (maybe 5 pounds), but instead I really, REALLY wanted to be firmer and lose the jelly belly. This is certainly motivating. Tomorrow I am getting a haircut and I feel bold ... WATCH OUT!

I'm so glad to hear you are feeling better, {E}. I have to admit...it still is bothering me to know someone from our group was so critical of you.

I had fun reading the updates on each of your girls. It sounds like they are all doing FANTABULOUS! Tee, hee...I am borrowing that word from my {M}.

Hope you have a GREAT Friday!

I'm glad your recovering from that comment, E. I have a thin skin too. I would have lost sleep over it...lol. The girls sound like they are doing great. Homeschooling seems to be going well. Have you looked into the 4 Blocks Method to work with {k}'s reading? Just Google it and you will find lots of resources. It is geared towards classroom use, but it would work in a home classroom too.

Can't wait to see your hairdo!!

Glad to see you back blogging again...and I'm still sad that you were wounded by someone you thought of as a friend. :(

I am so pleased that you are finding homeschooling working for you and your kids. We certainly have never looked back. The reading is something that can really benefit from one to one as you say. It is tricky finding something that they love to read and challenges them as well. Let us know how you get on!!

I'm so sorry to hear someone left an unkind comment. I've never understood people going to someone's personal blog and being mean..it just doesn't make sense to me, really rude.

I enjoyed the update on your girls too. We switched from Abeka to phonics pathway finally, and my 7 year old is blazing through it.

good for you on the running!! Wow, I am so impressed! I passed up a run the other day for an egg bagel sandwich..bad me...I should take your example and get out there!

Grace and peace,

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

"The Loveliness of The Seashore"

What is the "Seashore" like? "Where the sky meets the sea ... The seashore is a place where the sea and the sky are the same smoky gray until ... the morning sun breaks through. The hot noonday sun feels warm as a big soft cat covering you. And it seems there is nothing in the world except the sound of the wind and the rising and falling of waves." Over at Dawn 's there are so many wonderful books suggested on her blog. Earlier this month I couldn't help but to peek at some of them ... thanks Dawn! *The above quote came from The Seashore Book . The ocean moves in and then moves out. This place where water, sky and earth meet is never the same. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, each wave that returns pushes against the incoming swell as it is pulled back into the endless depths and swallowed into the vastness of an unknown deep. Such is each day of our "daily" lives. I grew up enjoying the sights, sound, and the surf of the NY/Jersey "shor...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
