My husband asked me if I was going to blog about him tonight. I told him ..." probably not!" HOWEVER, I changed my mind ... I AM!
Today he took his first step into the Church. Today was The Rite of Acceptance into the Church. It really was a very special time for my husband, for me, and for our family. I really don't know the words to express the way I feel ... a myriad of feelings.
Taking this step has not been one pushed by me. I have known my husband (from when we started to date) since 1987. We got married in '95 and all of our girls have been baptized and raised in the Catholic faith. The exposure has been there, but never the real "pressure".
Back in August I jokingly threw my husband an RCIA pamphlet from our Church, and he said to me "I was thinking of going to the next meeting". REALLY????? I was quite excited, but then I didn't want to make a huge deal. I knew that this was a step that could be encouraged, but not forced by myself. I wanted him to want to be CATHOLIC.
Today was the first step .... (can I jump up and down and smile here?)
Since the very beginning of September I have been attending the RCIA program with my husband. The classes have been wonderful ... especially for this cradle Catholic. I am learning so much. Our Monsignor is a great teacher. He comes from Phily and being an East Coast girl, I can relate to his style. He loves to tell stories and because he can relate them so well to the faith, it just draws you in. You can't help but to walk away and feel completely inspired and in love with the Catholic faith. HOW GREAT IS THAT!
A little funny from this past week ....
As my husband (Scott) an I sat in the back of the RCIA class, Monsignor who was talking about the upcoming Rite of Acceptance called out "Mr (our last name), would you like to do me a favor?". Of course my husband said "Sure, what is it?". Our Church has a specific ceremony where on the first Sunday of Advent, they do this special procession that begins with a knock on the door to the Church. My husband was to be the knocker.
When we left the class, my husband said he was hoping to fly UNDER the radar ... not be noticed. In the real world he is such a figure in his job that he thought he would quitely enter the Church. If you knew my husband, you would say NO WAY ... nothing he does gets noticed quietly.
Today, my husband was instructed to knock on the door. He joked with Monsignor when he was asked if he thought he could handle the job. Scott said ... "I don't know Monsignor, is it knock, knock, knock or knock, knock ...knock, knock"? Monsignor laughed and said "No, it is - knock, knock, knock ,knock, knock ... knock, knock!"
My husband knocked well.
It was so special to witness this - really, it brought tears to my eyes.
I love my husband so much.
Having him share the faith with me would be ICING on the cake.
I keep praying ...
Any other prayers would be greatly appreciated!

My husband was a cradle catholic who became an atheist and then about 10 years ago he became a Catholic that puts me to shame. I never would have dreamed he would fall asleep with a Bible or Radio Replies book in his hand.
You are doing everything right. I will pray for you all!Offer up this joy!
My husband said, "Thanks for not pushing this. Thanks for not treating me like I was rotten because I wasn't religious."
