Ahhhhh SCHOOL PICTURES

Once upon a long time ago it was probably a nice thing to do for parents ... you know the ones who rarely took out their camera.  At least each year they would have one current photo of their child.  However in my house, the camera reveals itself at least a few times in a week.  I love my camera and I love taking pictures.  So why do I continue to purchase school photos of my children year after year?  Maybe because they are just so darn cute OR maybe because I feel the pressure to continue this ritual OR maybe it is because I am afraid to hear "mom, where is my 1st grade photo?"

Meet PIPPI ...
School pictures are posed and I much prefer natural sort of shots or at least semi-natural ;)

I did not get to fix this child's hair before her photo session.

I did not send her to school with that white headband thing ... somehow it showed up on her head.  I think it needs to go back to the lost and found.

What was the person doing who took this picture?  My child doesn't normally give this expression.

She is not wearing her glasses, but SHE IS WEARING the rubberbands on her braces (this I could have said "don't worry about putting on")

I hate this color background.  I guess it goes okay with the red shirt, but it is BORING!

This smile is again just a little too much.  Of course I think she is cute, but if I would have taken this picture ... DELETE then RETAKE.

Again ... the hair!  Not even sure what I can add to that?????

Argh, me too. I don't know why I buy them. I would feel too guilty if I didn't! {p}'s this year is way better than last years, but it's still a SCHOOL PICTURE, kwim?

for the kid's sport's photos we dont' buy the pkgs any more. I can take much better shots of them and they're outdoors - not the stupid indoor ones with the fake stadium filled back-drop. way too cheesey for me. i totally love the candid, outdoorsy shots!

I love your shots. they're the best!

Your photos are much better, but you're right, it's kind of a tradition to buy the school pics. We are doing the same thing! Our photographer gave us some choices for background colors, and the middle school gave choices for pose style and background color. Of course, all that extra stuff costs more, though! ;-)

I do the same thing...reluctantly buy them, and they are so expensive now, it's crazy! And then they come in the Spring too...it's ridiculous!

Oh I love the school pics. It is tradition and I also love tradition. I agree that school pics are different from yours and yours are way better, however, I LOVE those school ones.

Your girls are so stinkin' cute - and you'll have the memory of the white headband story FOREVER.

It must be a Mom guilt thing - like how you go to the picture place and you can't possibly walk away because the pics are so cute - but you don't really need 9000 pictures. Ugh. I've so been there.

I'm putting together albums for each of my kids - with all their school pics in order. Now that I have a high schooler it is to go back and look at each phase that they were in.

Your candids are gorgeous, but I salute you for being a "sucker!"

My mom always made a big deal of how awful our school pictures were, and in my childish naivete, I thought it was somehow MY fault.
The fact that you buy them, despite their "lacking" (which I actually find really charming!), is a sign of a lovely, caring Mama!

AMEN! I could not have said it better. Why is there the need to buy these awful school pictures when the candids are just so priceless and truly capture their unique personality. I hate picture day;)

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
