Of course I think it is important to vote, BUT

Just not digging this method.  I don't really want to listen to celebrities telling me what to do ... or who to vote for.  It bothers me A LOT that new (or old) voters might not really educate themselves about the issues, but instead vote as the celebrities do.  Hmmmmmm ...  I know that we all have a voice and have the right to express it, but obviously the voice of a celebrity is heard more, and by more people.  NOT COOL (in my opinion).  Plus I find it a bit condescending.  When did celebrities voice become so valued in politics?  Some may say which celebrities? The Hollywood ones or the Washington ones?  The two seem to have merged ... ughhhhhh!
*Turn off my music to listen  ... if you even want to;)

I agree! People need to take their right to vote seriously and find out what the issues are and where they stand -- not their neighbors and definitely not celebrities. Hope you are having a better day today!

Celebrities...think they're ALL THAT...because they are paid MILLIONS for a movie.
One movie.
So by dollars alone we tell them their work and talents are much more valued than our own.
It is revolting.

a store owner
an administrative assistant

just not a swimming in sea of egomania celebrity.

Well said! Sad that there are people who will vote because their favorite celebrity is voting a certain way. Ridiculous. I'm so tired of hearing certain celebrities gushing over their candidates and using their platforms to try and sway the general public. I've stopped watching and listening to certain programs until after this election is over. Maybe even for good.

I watched this on your blog yesterday, {E}, but couldn't get the comment box to pop up even though I had just left a comment on your previous post.

You know, I actually think this video could be a great GOTV tool if it didn't include a political position. I can see where it would be off-putting(is that a word?) to those who don't generally vote for one particular party. Some young people do need the nudge to pay attention and get involved because unfortunately, they don't get it from their parents or schools...probably for a wife variety of reasons.

But seriously, I can't imagine voting for a candidate because my favorite movie star told me to do so. That notion is so bad it almost makes me laugh.

{w} you are your own person ... your beliefs are important to you. I believe that there are a lot of people in this world who just aren't comfortable with who they are OR who are able to make a choice on their own.

Like Laura said ... I would rather see just about anyone off the street saying "VOTE ... it's important".

After the last debate I do not have much hope for the election. I really don't. By the looks of the polls and the state of the economy right now, it will take a miracle.

Life will go on....sadly not for the unborn.

You know, I think it's easy to assume that the people who disagree with you politically haven't really considered the issues (I hear a similar attitude from liberals fairly often), but I think the only way to bridge the partisan divide is if we start talking respectfully about the reasons we're voting the way we are (I'm not saying you've been disrespectful, just that so much of the blogosphere is.)

I guess you're still supporting McCain/Palin-- I'd be interested to read what you like about them. :)

I don't assume LN and I take offense with you saying that anyone who disagrees with me hasn't considered the issues ... I never said that. People have a right to vote who they feel is the right choice, but I would hope they would be educated in their decision. Of course this applies to all voters whatever their political views.

I don't like that so many celebrities have the ability to voice their opinion and be so forceful (like this ad does) just because they have celebrity status.

I didn't mean to offend you, or to suggest you thought every person who disagrees with you hasn't considered the issues. I didn't convey what I wanted to very well, I guess, and I may have misunderstood your post.

My feeling is that when people get so polarized we need to make a special effort to reach out to the other side, and to remember that, by and large, we all want the same things.

I'm going to try to write a post on my blog explaining what the heck I was trying to say (since this is NOT my blog, and I don't want to go on and on here). Sorry!

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
