This just makes me so happy

I probably shouldn't speak too soon, but I am so glad to see this child READING.  Last night I told her that as much as we love to read to her, she really needs to pick out a chapter book and start one by herself.  Off to her bookshelf she went  ... she picked out a Magic Treehouse book (probably a little easy for her grade level, but I won't protest).  She then read about 4 chapters last night.  This morning she walked around the house with a book in her hand and then sat at the end of our driveway still reading while waiting for the bus.

MAYBE things just "clicked" and she will be my little bookworm.

I HOPE (and pray).

I LOVE it when that happens. A reluctant reader + the right book = pure joy for a mom. Cute braids too.

I have NO bookworms over here. My daughter, if she finds the right book, is all over it. My two boys - not so much.

This is exciting.
Don't worry about the level of reading...for some of us..reading is emotional. I used to check out Pippi Longstocking, Ramona the Pest and a book called Laura's Luck...over and over again. My mother would worry but then she realized that I simply enjoyed their company. They made me laugh.
I search high and low for books that students can relate to. I never really believe it when someone tells me they don't like to read. I always assume that they just haven't found the right genre.

YAY! I know how important this is to you. I am excited for {M}.

About the reading level...I am starting to think it is overrated. I didn't think that a year ago...so worried that the older girls had what they needed to challenge them. Reading levels. Lexile scores. Blah, blah, blah. I guess my thoughts changed some with {M} and realizing there are so many good books below her reading level that she has not read and would enjoy SHe is enjoying one right now...The Mysterious Benedict Society which is around a sixth grade level, I think. There is nothing wrong with reading for enjoyment!

I love it when they make that 'turn around'. my 2nd dd doesnt really enjoy reading, although she has enjoyed some books that she's *had* to read.

this yr for history, that's all she is doing is reading living history books. the first book she *had* to read was a lengthy SHADOW HAWK - it was extremely difficult for her to get into, but much to my surprise and joy, toward the end she *wanted* to read it and told me how 'good it's getting'! Now she's on her 2nd ancient Egypt living book and loving it! So rich!!

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
