UPDATE on ME!

Let's see ...

I've lost some weight ... about 9 pounds, but I do think it will not be any more.  I find myself eating more often than I was even just a week ago.  Yesterday I made a really yummy cheesy baked potato soup that had lots of fattening stuff in it.  I'm sure I'll be eating that for a few days.

The brushing of teeth part of this whole jaw surgery thing has been tough, but I do see it getting better.  Because I can't open my mouth fully it is harder to get the toothbrush everywhere.  I can't really floss yet and the water pik (my oh so important cleaner with braces) is still off limits until week 4.

While my mouth was not wired shut, I do wear some heavy rubber bands that prevent me from opening my mouth more than 1/4 inch.  Thankfully I can take them out to eat, but for the most part I wear them 23 hours a day.  It makes talking a bit harder.  I mumble a lot and my jaws really are exhausted by the end of the day.  I seriously just shut down around 7pm.  Hopefully this gets easier with time.

The bruising is gone on my face and neck, but I still have swelling.  My left side profile looks way better than the right side.  For some reason the swelling hasn't really gone down that much on the right.  The oral surgeon did say that my right side was a little harder to work with  ... nerves and muscles.  I'm still trying to get used to my new look and do hope that it gets better in time.  Because my upper jaw was moved out, I actually have a more prominent upper lip and my nose which used to be straight, has a slight turn-up ... it looks a little smaller from the side too.  It is going to take a while before I get back all the feeling in my face.  Right now I can feel my upper lip (although it is tingly), but not my bottom lip.  My nose is pretty numb too.  The whole right side of my face has a tingly feeling.  I can't really smile all that well.  With a closed mouth the smile looks okay, but if I try to do a cheese smile with my teeth ... it just looks WEIRD.  I guess I just have to give myself more time.

Today I have another appointment with the oral surgeon.  I think I will get to take the rubber bands off for more hours in the daytime, but we will see.  Hopefully he says that things are going well with me.

Oh Elaine, you are a trooper. And so positive. You go girl! And I'm jealous -- 9 lbs -- you can't afford to lose that kind of weight you skinny minnie! :)

You'll get there -- and remember we're all out here rooting for you!
Hope it goes well at the oral surgeon today.

Elaine, do you have a link to how this all started in the first place?
I am sad that you have to go through all this and it's reminding me of a friend from high school who yawned one day and her whole jaw snapped out of place.
She had to have her jaw wired and have surgery etc.
I never remember reading how this started.
Don't want to be nosey...but....
I guess I do want to be nosey.
I must have missed the post where you explained why you had this surgery, so I'm kinda lost... what happened? Goodness, it doesn't sound fun. Bless your heart...but I'm glad to hear you're recovering, though slowly. Make sure you take it easy on yourself!
Bless you bunches!

So glad things are healing and you can see improvement. Boy, almost 10 pounds? That's a lot. I guess a liquid diet will do that to a person.
Hope you had a good appt. Can't wait to see the new you.

Momto5minnies meets the Pioneer Woman!

I read her blog and knew that she was coming into town for her book signing and I thought about going, but I also knew it was the day that I was getting my braces off (MONDAY 11/9). On Sunday night before, my husband made a quick trip to Walmart and brought home a flyer saying how Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) was coming the next day. I'm not sure if my husband was more excited about me getting my braces off the next day or having me MEET THE PIONEER WOMAN. I guess I really did want to go, but now I HAD TO GO! Monday was a crazy day ... jitters in the am 4.6 mile run to make me feel relaxed (it was also my longest run yet) drop the 12 year old at her homeschool art class quick trip to Walmart (to see if there were Pioneer Woman cookbooks ... no luck, but my husband picked me up a few ... I'm gifting some for Christmas). home to throw a pot roast in the crockpot braces removal at 11:30am dentist visit at 1pm usual afterschool chaos of swim team home for a 30 minute rest wa...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...

Not a lot has changed ...

As a puppy he always liked a warm spot. We call Comet our "close talker" (from Seinfeld) because he is in your face and always a little too close for our comfort level. The girls don't seem to mind, but it can be a little annoying for my husband and I. Really, he is a fabulous dog. He listens well and is so gentle with everyone. *We don't let Comet on furniture ... except for the playroom/schoolroom couch. There he enjoys relaxing and being read to by one of the girls. SPOILED POOCH!
