Grumble, grumble ...

Thoughts I really don't like to HEAR ...

"Finally! ... a boy"
"She had twins ... a boy and a girl ... perfect! Now there is no need for getting pregnant again"

No, I am not pregnant. My sister-in-law is ... with a boy. This of course is the first boy grandchild for my husband's parents. They just found out yesterday. My own family has many more grandchildren and an EVEN amount of boys and girls. I saw that "Finally, ... a boy!" comment on my MIL's Facebook page. She didn't say it, but someone she is "friends" with did. At least my MIL responded with "And a boy, what a nice surprise!"

And I don't know the person who just had the twins, but apparently she went though IVF and got the so called "perfect" scenario. Who decided that one boy and one girl were PERFECT? Of course this is what my MIL had and I will not say who said the second statement above, but you can try to guess.

I really have a hard time letting go of my feelings. Of course if you read my blog you know that I have ALL girls and I love that. To me it is PERFECT. It's just the way GOD intended my husband and I to have. I never liked hearing from folks who would say (thankfully not too many) "I hope for your sake this one is a BOY" (ugh).

Many years ago when I lived in CA, I knew someone who KNEW someone who did that whole sperm spinning in hopes of getting the sex that they wanted. Secretly I laughed when the procedure ('cause that's what it is) did not work. I thought back then, that you just don't mess with LIFE in that way.

I've also HEARD of people who tried for more babies, just to get that girl or boy they always wanted. What made me feel even more sad was when they didn't end up with the sex they hoped for and felt depressed ... now they just had another child to take care of.

LIFE is such a gift and I believe that too many people don't respect it. THERE! I said it.

I feel a little better getting it down on this here blog.

Oh! I can relate to this one. After 3 boys, we are expecting a girl. We are happy, but we are happy to be having another baby regardless of the gender. Nonetheless, we continue to hear, "Finally, you have your girl!" or "Are you done now that you are having a girl?" Of course, only God can answer that!

Well said! It should all be in God's hands. He gives us the families he wills us to have. It is a supreme selfishness to want anything other than what He wants for us!

I think your girls are lovely and they are very blessed to have a mommy like you!

Oh my, as I was reading your post, I was thinking of the exact comments the above poster, Therese, mentioned although with opposite gender. The most common one we heared were "You finally got your boy. You can be done now". Umm, yeah, like I was looking for someone's permission to stop having children.

I think people make stupid comments about the size and gender makeup of every kind of family. I don't think it is necessarily mean spirited. People just look to say something, you know their "two cents" and it ends up sounding dumb.

Thankfully most families think their family is exactly right for them!

Congrats on the new nephew headed your way. I didn't realize your SIL was already far enough along to know the gender.

And a lovely Minnie she is, too.

I went out with all four of my boys yesterday, the three that walk around and the one still in utero, and was surprised (although I shouldn't have been) at how many people said "Just had to have that girl, huh?" Then I laughed at the looks they gave me when I said "Nope, I have two girls at home. With all these boys, we're just hoping for a priest."

I can relate too! I have three boys and I am always asked if I am going to "try for my girl?" I am not one to speak up, or respond sarcastically, but I have always wanted to say, "I did not know I was entitled to a girl?"

I love having all boys. I would love to have a girl too if it is God's will.

We heard some of those same comments. I had a girl first, and then a boy - and everyone said "oh - you have the perfect family - who needs anything more?" When we had our 3rd (another boy) we immediately heard comments about having to have a 4th (a girl, of course) to even things up.

Nope - I was meant to have 3 kids - and that's what we have. Unless God decides we need something else. :)

Oh my word, that picture is making me want a baby right NOW!!! Could she be any more pink and just perfect????

I got that a lot when we had the first two because we had a girl then a boy -- "Oh, the perfect family?" -- I can't tell you how many people said we were nuts because we wanted more. Those are the people that just don't get what a blessing and a GIFT life is!

Hugs E!

Standing ovation from me. ;-) I remember when I was pregnant with Avery we went to the polls to vote. An old woman looked at our family (M,E and L at the time) and my belly and said, "You got your girl. What'd you have to keep going for?" I wanted to crawl into my skin. Then after Avery was born we got the, "Oh two of each, how perfect." Apparently not perfect enough since we added another girl and made things uneven again...lol.

I think you are so blessed with your five little girlies! I love my boys, but I'd love to have more girls.

Very well said!! Gorgeous baby!!
I had three that were all 9lb babies and then one who was only 6 lbs.. scared me when he was so small=)

My friend Julie has 12 lb babies every single time (five boys!!) and she is not a big gal.. just amazing!!

No matter how big or how small.. they are all so precious!

That baby girl has so much hair!!!

I do not know why people say what the things they do. Boys are way different then girls. Both so wonderful. I am a mama of boys. God knew that. My one little girl is almost a boy. She is so much like her brothers and plays with boys stuff. Oh well.

We don't always realized how hurtful the casual comments can be when we make them.
I could easily hear myself responding with "Wow, you finally got a boy."
You're right.
It's a bit odd.

Terrific!
Fantastic news!
God bless you!
Those are good responses.
Thanks for helping me to be more aware.

SO agree with you!!! You know how many people asked my daughter if she was FINALLY going to get a sister??? It drove us both crazy...I can never imagine wanting one or another...especially after loss, you realize the most important thing is a BABY period...no matter what kind. I always felt like the little baby growing inside would "know" what you were wishing for...and what if it wasn't them? Can you imagine being disappointed the day they were born because you didn't get what you wanted? Makes me sad.

As a mother who has been blessed with four daughters and NO boys, I can say I AGREE! Girls are such a blessing! Children are a gift from God and should be appreciated as such. My poor husband...even our dogs have been girls!

I don't know if I've been here before or not, but found you through Christine's blog.

I love this post, it is so true!! Those things people say are so pet peeves for me! We are having our fourth girl, we do have one boy but I hear so many comments about it, I hear the "ahhh, that's too bad, is Tom ok with that?" (my hubby) Of course he is, we are just happy that the baby is healthy, God knows best and gives us each the the intended sex of each child.

Our first was our son, then when I had a girl, second, I heard from so many people I can't even count, that "now you have the perfect family" What? if she would have been a boy, our family would not have been perfect?

Oh, there is so much more I could say here, but I won't bore you, great post!!

Beautiful baby by the way!!!

Momto5minnies meets the Pioneer Woman!

I read her blog and knew that she was coming into town for her book signing and I thought about going, but I also knew it was the day that I was getting my braces off (MONDAY 11/9). On Sunday night before, my husband made a quick trip to Walmart and brought home a flyer saying how Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) was coming the next day. I'm not sure if my husband was more excited about me getting my braces off the next day or having me MEET THE PIONEER WOMAN. I guess I really did want to go, but now I HAD TO GO! Monday was a crazy day ... jitters in the am 4.6 mile run to make me feel relaxed (it was also my longest run yet) drop the 12 year old at her homeschool art class quick trip to Walmart (to see if there were Pioneer Woman cookbooks ... no luck, but my husband picked me up a few ... I'm gifting some for Christmas). home to throw a pot roast in the crockpot braces removal at 11:30am dentist visit at 1pm usual afterschool chaos of swim team home for a 30 minute rest wa...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...

Not a lot has changed ...

As a puppy he always liked a warm spot. We call Comet our "close talker" (from Seinfeld) because he is in your face and always a little too close for our comfort level. The girls don't seem to mind, but it can be a little annoying for my husband and I. Really, he is a fabulous dog. He listens well and is so gentle with everyone. *We don't let Comet on furniture ... except for the playroom/schoolroom couch. There he enjoys relaxing and being read to by one of the girls. SPOILED POOCH!
