More about ME ...

I'm catching a small window where I can talk just about me.
Girls are done with LONG COURSE swim season.
School has not started.
It's still summer for 2 more weeks (in my area).

So I've been doing this swimming thing. For three nights in a row I've donned the suit, cap, and goggles and swam with the new group of MASTERS. For an hour at a time, I get in my exercise and a little chat time between sets. I am LOVING IT!

I've come to realize something about myself. For all of my life I've remained active with some sort of exercise. Of course there have been lull periods where I didn't do anything for weeks and maybe months, but NEVER a year has gone by where I didn't do something. Is it pompous of me to pat myself on the back for this? I'm gonna say NO. Mostly because I tend to have low self-esteem when it comes to many things. I never think I am smart enough, pretty enough, etc.

I am healthy.
I am strong.
I am fit (to a degree).

Exercise is my drug. I realize if time goes by and I start to have sadness or depression (something I am prone to), I know that I'm not getting what I NEED. God gave me this body and he wants me to take care of it. If that is "the one thing" I have realized or learned in my life so far, it is that I (with the help of GOD) know what I need to make ME a BETTER person ... a BETTER wife and BETTER mother. I NEED to keep me going ...

So right now, I'll add some lines from FINDING NEMO ...

Dory: Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do?
Marlin: No I don't wanna know.
Dory: [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.
Marlin: Dory, no singing.
Dory: [continuing] Ha, ha, ha, ha, ho. I love to swim. When you want to swim you want to swim.
Marlin: Now I'm stuck with that song... Now it's in my head.
Dory: Sorry.

Elaine,

You pat yourself on the back -- you deserve it! We women are often too hard on ourselves. I find myself struggling with the "guilt" of doing something for myself -- like I'm ignoring other important things.

Well gosh darnit, we Moms are important. We need to keep ourselves healthy and active. There's nothing wrong with taking time out for you to do that.

And just think, your post inspires others and know that's YOU making a difference!

Hugs!

I love working out also! Water has to be warm for me to get into it. I am so soft!
I love your little workout widget! It is great that exercise is your drug. What a great drug! I have just not ever been able to become enthusiastic about exercise, and I should. It would move my weight loss plan (which does work) a little faster and return me to being closer to fit. After 8 years of enforced exercise in the military and a body that does not sweat (actually, that does not good; it messes up electrolytes -- we are supposed to sweat) and aa gym at work -- clearly, I have no excuse -- I still find myself putting it off until the day is over and then deciding that "tomorrow" will be a good time to start. The only problem is that "tomorrow" is always tomorrow.

Good for you! Keep it up! And, again, great widget!

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

"The Loveliness of The Seashore"

What is the "Seashore" like? "Where the sky meets the sea ... The seashore is a place where the sea and the sky are the same smoky gray until ... the morning sun breaks through. The hot noonday sun feels warm as a big soft cat covering you. And it seems there is nothing in the world except the sound of the wind and the rising and falling of waves." Over at Dawn 's there are so many wonderful books suggested on her blog. Earlier this month I couldn't help but to peek at some of them ... thanks Dawn! *The above quote came from The Seashore Book . The ocean moves in and then moves out. This place where water, sky and earth meet is never the same. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, each wave that returns pushes against the incoming swell as it is pulled back into the endless depths and swallowed into the vastness of an unknown deep. Such is each day of our "daily" lives. I grew up enjoying the sights, sound, and the surf of the NY/Jersey "shor...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
