melancholy IS MY MIDDLE NAME

It's not all that obvious, but it's there ... always there ... always has been there. It's possible that I could use to benefit from a helpful pill, but I'm anti-drug. Well, except for the occasional ibuprofen.

Since I was a little girl I've been aware of so many things around me. I'm sure that isn't all that unusual. Many people are observant. For me, however, I take things in and think, THINK about those things I see and/or hear and I do NOT let them out of my head. Again, this may not be all that strange. Lord knows, there is a lot more strange out there than not.

I'm really bothered by my melancholy thoughts. AT this point in my life, I've pretty much accepted that this was just the way I am ... it's in my makeup. Each morning I can dress up my face with real makeup, but at then end of the day when I wash it all off ... the same face is staring right back at me in the mirror.

What I do wish for is that I wouldn't feel disappointment so much ... in myself and in others. There are probably ways for me to deal with this through prayer, through moderation, through discussion, through better planning, etc. Complaining about the way things are isn't going to make things better. Action HAS to occur.

If I'm not happy about the mess in my house, I need to plan out a way to attack it and make it look better. Maybe I need to delegate some, put together a chore chart, or take it room by room. There is a way to make it better. To not feel so frustrated or disappointed by the way it looks.

If I'm not happy with the way my children talk to one another ... fighting, yelling, etc. ; I can take them aside and discuss the current situation and how it could have been avoided or how it can be made better.

If I'm not happy with our financial situation ... spending a little too much; I can start to carefully look at the budget and once again put a plan of action into effect to change the way things have been.

If I'm not happy the way I look and feel it may be that I need to exercise more diligently, eat better food, and make my faith life more of a priority. I know how important it is to feed myself with the good stuff.

So many times I KNOW the answers and the actions to make things better. The problem that I deal with is just not reacting in a timely fashion and thinking WAY TOO MUCH about all the small stuff. I sweat all that small stuff and in turn it makes me ... MELANCHOLY.

((((SIGH))))

But I also know that there is a big picture I can't see.
I need as much help as I can to make good decisions.
I need the support of GOD.
I can see and FEEL when HE isn't a priority in my life.
It reveals itself in that melancholy.

Sometimes I want to say whatever and give up.
BUT, part of me can't give into the sadness.
There is always something pulling me back ... a light ... a hope.

At the end of the day, I realize that I don't know how to sink.
I only know how to swim. (a partially said quote from American Idol's Brooke White)

This is a lovely reflection, Elaine, and though you may think it sounds like whine, you finish with Hope.

Blessings!

I've been reading your blog for a couple months. I am just like you. Today was one of those days for me and it's easy to find yourself sinking down instead of being lifted up. Thanks for your thoughts..it always helps to know you're not alone.

From one melancholic temperament to another... I hear you, sister!

We know the answers already, but I sure do get tired of the questions.

Beautifully said.

You say that you need the support of GOD but, my dear friend, you have it. He loves you so much that He sent His son to die for you.

When life just gets to be too much, put a lot of the messy stuff into a pile and turn it over to GOD.

You are a beautiful woman with a heart for loving those around you.

I want you to know that you are special to me as my friend. I admire you and love when we have the chance to chat, even if for just a few minutes.

Hugs to you,
Deb

Feeling every bit of 46 ... ugh!

When I was 45, I was feeling fabulous.   I was fit, energetic, and I thought I could easily pass for 40;) Age was just a number and I certainly didn't think I felt or looked my true age. Then February 11th came and I turned 46.   I have sciatica on my left side, my left knee is stiff, and I have plantar fasciitis in my right foot.   I've resorted to stretching all the time and popping the occasional anti-inflammatory.   There are dark circles under my eyes that I've had to start putting concealer on.   My hair is growing out from last years 45 year old short hair, but it's just in an awkward stage.  I can't decide if I want to cut it again or let it grow out.   I even thought of styling my hair differently by doing a different hair part.   That was a terrible idea because I was SHOCKED to see how much gray is now growing in the center of my scalp.  I also think my metabolism is slowing down because my mid section seems a little thicker ... ...

"The Loveliness of The Seashore"

What is the "Seashore" like? "Where the sky meets the sea ... The seashore is a place where the sea and the sky are the same smoky gray until ... the morning sun breaks through. The hot noonday sun feels warm as a big soft cat covering you. And it seems there is nothing in the world except the sound of the wind and the rising and falling of waves." Over at Dawn 's there are so many wonderful books suggested on her blog. Earlier this month I couldn't help but to peek at some of them ... thanks Dawn! *The above quote came from The Seashore Book . The ocean moves in and then moves out. This place where water, sky and earth meet is never the same. The tide comes in, the tide goes out, each wave that returns pushes against the incoming swell as it is pulled back into the endless depths and swallowed into the vastness of an unknown deep. Such is each day of our "daily" lives. I grew up enjoying the sights, sound, and the surf of the NY/Jersey "shor...

A scattered post ...

I throw myself into stuff all the time.  It can be anything from the start of a swim season, a new school year, the election, a vacation, an exercise routine etc.  I'm kind of in a phase where I really don't know what my focus should be.  I turned on the television and honestly, I have no idea what is on this fall season ... NO IDEA AT ALL .  If I watched television in the past few months, it was something kid related or Fox News. I NEED A NEW FOCUS. My current thoughts  ... reading a fictional, just for fun book stepping up my exercise routine thinking about our Christmas wish lists and shopping baking more ... I really am slacking in this area ways to save money so that we can get a new (second) washer and dryer for the upstairs (not a fancy kind because this would mostly be used by my oldest two children)... I actually have hookups. I wonder if a lot of people go through a sort of "lull" period this time of the year.  Surely it doesn't last long with the start ...
